Innovative Therapuetics
What is Innovative Therapeutics?
Innovative Therapeutics represents a new service provided by Trumm Drug pharmacists. Innovative Therapeutics expands upon what a typical pill dispensing pharmacy can provide for you. The service we provide connects you with a specially-trained pharmacist who reviews and assesses all of your medications. You may have heard this service referred to as Medication Therapy Management (MTM). In other words, Innovative Therapeutics gives you private access to the expertise of a doctor of pharmacy dedicated to improving the outcomes of your medications.
What Is Mediation Therapy Management?
Your pharmacist is a medication expert with years of advanced training on medications and how they can help to improve your health. In addition, your pharmacist is trained to help you use your medications correctly. Patients sit down privately and face to face with Aaron to review all of their medications including prescriptions, over-the-counters, herbals and vitamins – even if you purchased them at another store. During this review you will work with Aaron to:
- Help you understand your medications and how they help you manage your health conditions.
- Answer any questions you have about your medications.
- Help you organize your medications and prepare questions to ask your other health care providers.
- Check to see if you are having any problems with your medications. If problems are found, our pharmacist can work with you and your health care providers to help solve these problems.
- Help you keep track of any issues you have had with medications in the past.
- Help you make a complete list of all your medications that you can share with other health care providers.
Why Is Medication Therapy Management Needed?
Medication-related problems and medication mismanagement are a massive public health problem in the United States. Experts estimate that 1.5 million preventable adverse events occur each year that result in $177 billion in injury and death.
Who Can Benefit From Medication Therapy Management?
Anyone who uses prescription medications, non-prescription medications, herbals, or other dietary supplements may potentially benefit from MTM services. People who may benefit the most include those who use several medications, those who have several health conditions, those who have questions or problems with their medications, those who are taking medications that require close monitoring, those who have been hospitalized, and those who obtain their medications from more than one pharmacy.
Studies have found that people who meet with their pharmacists to manage their medications have:
- Lower health care costs.
- Fewer trips to the emergency room.
- Fewer hospitalizations.
- Fewer problems caused by medications.
- A better understanding of how to take their medications.
- Better management of health conditions such as diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, depression, and blood clots.
