Weight Loss

Perhaps the coming of the new year finds many of you working harder to fit into last years clothes! If so, you might be interested in some tips for weight loss.

If you are to be successful in getting rid of excess pounds and keeping them off you will need to change your mindset. Fad diets in which you follow a plan that you don’t enjoy, energized by a temporary surge in willpower to reach a short term goal, are only of limited effectiveness. It is proven that people who diet in this way follow a never ending cycle of gain and loss, in which the gains seem to creep ever higher and the losses diminish. Once your body has acquired a great number of fat cells, it is easier and quicker for you to add weight in between diets. So, if you are ready to change your mindset about your eating and exercising habits and patterns so that your body may be in good health, here are some things to consider.

Take some time to put down in writing the benefits that will accrue to you with a lighter body. Things such as feeling better, looking better, having more energy, needing less sleep, living longer, enjoying outings and activities, etc. This is an important step because motivation is the fuel that feeds commitment to accomplish your goals.

It is also necessary to have a plan which includes your goals and a time frame to reach them along with the methods that will fit you. Find a good book, or counselor, or friend whom you know has succeeded at losing weight and keeping it off. Knowing answers to such things as: why you overeat; what is the best weight for your frame; how fast you should lose; what foods add the most pounds; and how much to exercise; are necessary to developing a good plan to reach your goal. Your pharmacist or doctor may be able to steer you to some good sources.
